Dirt Bike Cleaning Guide
Dirt bikes are supposed to get dirty, of course, but that’s all the more reason to carefully clean your dirt bike after each ride. Leaving dirt to collect on the surfaces of your dirt bike can lead to corrosion and other maintenance issues that may lower its resale value. Not sure where to start? This guide from Silver Powersports explains how to clean your dirt bike in 6 simple steps!
1. Assembling Your Cleaning Kit
Before you start the cleaning process, make sure to gather all the necessary tools and products in one place. Your cleaning kit should include the following:
- An ordinary hose or pressure washer
- A mop bucket
- A mild cleaning solution, such as dish soap
- A soft sponge or cleaning brush
- A few clean rags or towels
- Optional: a hair dryer or a can of compressed air
2. Preparing the Bike
The next step to cleaning your dirt bike is to remove any delicate components that may be damaged by the water pressure. These include the air filter, seat, skid plate, and handguards. You should also make sure the exhaust, airbox, and muffler are covered up to prevent water from getting in.
3. Removing Loose Dirt
After removing the delicate parts of your dirt bike, rinse off any loose dirt using your hose or pressure washer. You may want to prop your bike on its side for better access to the underside.
4. Scrubbing with Soap
Once the loose dirt is removed, go ahead and scrub your dirt bike with a mild cleaning solution. Pay special attention to areas such as the chain and sprockets, where the buildup of dirt and debris can impact the performance of your dirt bike. A cleaning brush or an old toothbrush can come in handy for this step.
5. Rinsing the Bike
When you’re finished with scrubbing, rinse your dirt bike from top to bottom to remove the soap and any remaining dirt. Double-check to make sure you didn’t miss any spots!
6. Drying Off
Last but not least, dry off your dirt bike using an absorbent rag or towel. Letting your dirt bike air dry can leave streaks on the finish, so make sure that the bike is completely dry from top to bottom. You can use a hairdryer or compressed air to dry out the crevices.
Once you have completed all these steps, you can step back and admire your squeaky-clean dirt bike!
